Item Description
A rare late 16th century Indian Vijayanagara Hooded Long Katar Sword.
The sword is mounted with a characteristically complex hooded hilt with a double baluster grip and recurving guard with a mythical beast terminal and traces of engraved foliate decoration within geometric borders.
The hinged reinforcing strap at the wrist is largely broken off as can be seen in the photographs. Otherwise the sword is generally good patinated original condition overall.
The flattened diamond section blade is probably of damascus steel and is 31.25 inches (79.5 cm) long
